Davis: Nearly $3 million in state funding awarded to McKeesport
MCKEESPORT, Oct. 2 – Improvements to McKeesport’s municipal parking garage and the Steel Valley Trail will come by way of a $2.9 million state grant awarded to McKeesport, state Rep. Austin Davis, D-Allegheny, announced today.
Davis said that the allotted funding – awarded through the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation’s Multimodal Transportation Fund – will support an improvement project to the existing Steel Valley trail, which runs through the RIDC Industrial Center of McKeesport along the Monongahela River, linking the river to the McKeesport Multimedia Center. Upgrades to McKeesport’s municipal parking garage, which offers trail parking, also will be covered under the state grant.
“I’m elated to announce this substantial grant to the City of McKeesport,” Davis said. “This funding will not only improve accessibility to the trail, but it also will improve the overall experience for those who use the Steel Valley Trail running through the city.”
The Multimodal Transportation Fund was created by Act 89 of 2013.
Program eligibility and project selections were made according to safety benefits, regional economic conditions, technical and financial feasibility, job creation, energy efficiency and operational sustainability.
