Costa announces state economic development grant for consolidation of Spring Garden, Mt. Troy fire companies

PITTSBURGH, Oct. 14 – State Rep. Dom Costa, D-Allegheny, announced today the award of a $39,060 state Department of Community and Economic Development grant to aid the consolidation of Spring Garden and Mt. Troy fire companies.

The award will help the two stations transition into the Reserve Volunteer Fire Department.

"This award goes a long way to promote public safety," Costa said. "Together, these departments will reduce redundant spending and improve fire coverage in our neighborhoods. Congratulations are in order for the volunteer departments.

"Volunteer firefighting services are the backbone of strong local communities, and I sincerely thank every volunteer who bravely places his or her life on the line to keep their neighbors safe."

The Office of the Pennsylvania Fire Commissioner has projected that volunteer fire departments and EMS organizations save Pennsylvania taxpayers nearly $10 billion each year.
